Makes me feel like an idiot now that I think about it. Trust me, I've played MX Sim way way way way way more.

During that same period of time I've spent $130 on Untamed, Reflex, and the track packs. I paid $40 for it early in 2008, and have gotten 3 years of updates, and new tracks for free. Graphics wise, Reflex is fancier in terms of shadows and environment, but MXS is able to run at a much higher resolution, and graphics improvements are still in the works, as is the whole game. In Reflex you just hold left until you don't want to go left anymore. In MXS you steer the bike, you press (not hold) left to initiate a left turn, then you press the right button to keep the bike balanced as you go through the corner. Honestly, you can't compare it to Reflex. There are people running it on MAC's under bootcamp or something of the like. It's for PC only, either Windows or Linux.

I think its the motionjoy drivers that work best. PS3 controllers are a little tricky to get working, but if you search on the MX Sim forum you'll find what you need. PS3, 360, PC controllers, a PC steering wheel. Yes you can use any Controller you have that will work with a PC. I'd suggest checking out the MXS forum if you are serious about buying the game, those guys were pretty helpful to me. I played on the keyboard for a while, but that was pointless. It plugs right into your PC and works flawlessly. I personally like the Xbox 360 controller, actually I bought a generic 360 controller for about $25. The only thing it lacks is terrain deformation. If you truly want a "realistic" motocross game, this is it. Then you've got to learn the technique of actually riding the bike.

It takes time to learn how to ride and set up the bike. It is very challenging, but that's the attraction to me. I've said this on the "gameroom" forum, but I'll repeat it here: This is NOT a game that you'll download and master in a week. It's all I can do to beat the AI set on "easy". That being said, I'm still not even close to playing online yet. I've now eclipsed most of my old times set when I was playing "arcade" mode. I started by trying to master the easier tracks, and then working up to the more difficult ones. You have to start by simply trying to do the entire track without falling, then take it up a notch at a time You have to take baby steps with this game. Then I started tinkering with the bike and stability settings and realized that it was "doable". There is no way this is possible to rip around the tracks like some of these guys in the videos. I truly thought that the game was impossible to play and the whole thing was a big joke.

Turning "arcade" mode off was (is) an exercise in patience and frustration. Then I discovered that I'd been playing the game in "arcade" mode the whole time. I thought I was doing pretty good, I could kill the computer AI on "expert" and felt like I was ready to go online and race. Didn't take long to learn how to download and file all of that stuff, actually pretty easy.

I played the demo for a few days and hung around the MXS forum for a while, and decided it was worth the $40 with all of the free track and skin downloads. I bought MX Simulator about a 5-6 weeks ago.
